ASUS Eee PC 1215B-PU17-BKView the Price

The ASUS Eee PC 1215B-PU17-BK 12.1-Inch Netbook is one of the pricier netbooks on the market, but ASUS has a name well-known to those familiar with portable media devices. Also, with its 12.1-inch screen, it is a bit larger than the more compact models that are now inundating the market. Furthermore, it is a bit heavier at more than five and a half pounds when using an eight cell battery rather than a six. However, there are a few features that can make it an ideal netbook for some but also features that others may find a deterrent in making this the laptop for them.

This device runs on an AMD dual-core processor E350 and uses a Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. The 12.1-inch LED WXGA display shows the AMD Mobility Radeon HD6310 graphics. There are also useful features including Bluetooth v3.0 and Ethernet along with 2 GB of memory expandable to 4 GB. The 320 G 5400 RPM hard drive gives plenty of storage capabilities. Some may even find the .3 megapixel webcam and built-in stereo speakers worthwhile features in addition to the 2 in 1 card reader or digital array microphones.

Pros

Many people have had lots to say about this netbook. For instance, some users say it is comparable to a laptop, which is good for the price. Some also find that it connects to Wi-Fi very easily while others find that the combination CPU/GPU very convenient in a netbook. Some users also like the screen size and other features like the 3.0 USB port. The chiclet size keyboard works for those who prefer a keyboard to a touch screen typically found on a tablet. Otherwise, many of the users say the important features like the RAM, hard drive space, CPU and video card are satisfactory.

Cons

However, there are just as many bad reviews on this machine as there are good. By far the most frequent complaint comes with the touchpad. Many users have said this one flaw is enough to ruin the entire experience with the netbook. It has not been acknowledged as a factory defect, but many reviewers say that this defect makes the machine unusable. Others also claim that the space bar is also defective. Some users have also had other system issues such as crashing. There are also other inconveniences such as the inability to play Netflix streaming video in HD.

Bottom Line

The bad reviews just edge out the good ones in the case of the ASUS Eee PC 1215B-PU17-BK 12.1-Inch Netbook. While ASUS has had successful models in the past, apparently users will want it to resolve the touchpad issues as well as other defects before making it one of their top choices in netbooks. However, there have been a few users who could easily fix these problems, so they have no serious issues with the netbook. This netbook may be a good choice for some, but everyone should heed the warnings of previous users of this model.
